I tried to post this on telegram a while back and things happened, so I wanted to note them somewhere close by.

this is meant for people who more or less know what they’re doing, and are okay with frying their device without complaining if their hubris leads to an expensive paperweight.

obligatory:

Warning

Your warranty is now void. I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.

l10 pro and d9 pro are very similar, one has the 3d front sensor, other does not. despite this, the pinout is reversed.

On the d9 pro, the orientation is what is called “flipped backwards” in the guide: You’ll be connecting to pins that are further away from the front.

|

on the l10 pro, you’ll be connecting to the pins that are closer to you.

|

if you get the orientation wrong by 180°, you get this issue, with only the following log:

>>Software start--GitVer:127071eaC CodeVer:"0.7.5" Build@Jan 14 2022-15:12:47
>>

This means you are on MCU UART, not SoC UART. Good news is that you haven’t necessarily fried everything, despite the fearmongering. However, if you have fried everything, refer to the copypasta warning at the top of this post. Flip it around and give it a try.

Do note that you really cannot shove in the 2.54mm dupont/jumper cables into the connector. If you hate yourself and want to yolo, you’ll want to use female end jumpers that you shove 22 AWG solid core wires into to turn them into a 2mm pitch male jumper. In a pinch, chopping off resistor legs will do.

You really don’t want to skip the step of connecting USB-ID pin to ground. I’d suggest taking ground off to a breadboard and connecting all your grounds there, instead of trying to work in the really tight connector.

I do want to note that you should just get the breakout pcb unless you’re feeling particularly brave.
